Lighting engineers use the principles of electrical engineering to design, develop, test and supervise the manufacture of lighting equipment for film and television industry uses.
Lighting engineers used in cinematography to refer to high contrast lighting, especially if there is a predominance of shadowy areas. They also control the main light on a subject, often angled and off-centre that selectively illuminates various prominent features of the image to produce depth and shadows.
